How to use SOS Emergency feature in android and iphone

SOS Emergency

There could be many situations where we require using SOS Emergency feature.
This will be mostly helpful for girls/women and senior citizens.

Here are the features and usage of SOS Emergency

This emergency will be activated once the user presses the power button continuously 3 or 5 times based on the phone model. 

Most of the phone models have more or less same features:

Immediately after pressing power button 3 or 5 times then the following steps takes place:


  • Automatically a default number will be dialed i.e 112 (India)  
  • After default number call, it will automatically send SOS message to contacts (Contacts selected at the time of setup)
  • SOS message contains location co-ordinates which will be sent in text message. Once the person receives your message they will be able to click on location co-ordinates which will open in google maps so that they can see your exact location.
  • This location will be updated every few minutes and sent to those contacts till the user exits SOS emergency.
Note: Carrier charges will apply for sending sms
Main balance or sms balance is required

Other features depending on phone model

  • Capturing the photos from front and rear camera, recording voice clips of 5 seconds and will be sent to your emergency contacts every few minutes which is same as updating location. (This process will be automatically done in background which will not open camera or voice recorder on screen).

SOS Emergency Setup

OnePlus Phone

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Security and lock screen
Step 3: Select Emergency rescue option
Step 4: Enable Send SOS message automatically
Step 5: Select Emergency call trigger option and set to 3 (recommended) or 5
Step 6: Select Emergency information and add numbers from your contacts to whom message should be sent.

In emergency situations press power button 3 or 5 times depending as you setup. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Samsung Phone

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Advanced features
Step 3: Select Send SOS messages
Step 4: Click agree (if it prompts)
Step 5: Enable ON
Step 6: Click add when prompted or select send messages to
Step 7: Add contacts
Step 8: Enable Attach pictures and Attach audio recording. 

In emergency situations press power button 3 times. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Redmi Phone

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Emergency SOS
Step 3: Enable Emergency SOS
Step 4: Add Emergency contacts
Step 5: Click on Send now (if prompts) it will notify them that you have added them as emergency contacts

If required Enable Send call history (will send last 1 hour call history to emergency contacts)

In emergency situations press power button 5 times. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Oppo Phone

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Security
Step 3: Select Emergency SOS
Step 4: Enable Auto dial default number 
Step 5: Click on Emergency numbers and add contacts
Step 6: Enable Send SOS message
Step 7: Optional but recommended enable Send Pictures of surroundings and also Send a 5s Audio Recording of the Surroundings 

In emergency situations press power button 3 times. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Realme Phone

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Security 
Step 3: Select Emergency SOS
Step 4: Click on agree (if prompts)
Step 5: Click on Emergency contacts and add contacts
Step 6: Enable Auto dial the default number
Step 7: Enable Send SOS Message
Step 8: Optional but recommended enable both Send Pictures of Surroundings and Send a 5s Audio Recording of the Surroundings 

In emergency situations press power button 3 times. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Apple iPhone

There are two things to setup in iphone
1) Adding contacts from Health app. 2) Setting up Emergency SOS

Part 1

Step 1: Go to Health app (default iphone app)
Step 2: Click on profile picture or letter on top right corner
Step 3: Select Medical ID
Step 4: Click on edit
Step 5: Fill details like height, weight, blood group if required (so that they will be shown on screen in emergency)
Step 6: Add Emergency contacts
Step 7: Click on done (top right corner)

Now Part 2

Step 1: Go to Settings
Step 2: Select Emergency SOS
Step 3:Select Click Sleep/wake 3 times (recommended) or (Click Sleep/wake 5 times)

In emergency situations press power button 3 times or 5 times as per setup. So your emergency contacts will be notified with your location.

Note: 1) Medical ID details submitted by you will be displayed on screen
          2) After Emergency SOS you will be required to unlock using passcode (Touch Id / Face ID will not be allowed)
          3) After Unlock with passcode once then you can use Touch ID / Face ID as usual.
